School Jotter of the Week: Gordon Primary School

Published: April 17, 2014

Generally, we’re finding that there are currently two trends with primary school websites. Many primary schools tend to choose either a green-based theme with trees, flowers and maybe an image of their school in the header, or they choose a more corporate approach with high quality photographs and large menu boxes that make navigation easy.

School Jotter of the Week: Al-furqan Primary School

Published: April 11, 2014

We really love Al-furqan Primary School’s website – particularly the way that their theme matches the message that the school is trying to put across. This is a school that places pride in educating its children in both the national and Islamic curriculum, and doing so at the highest possible standard.

The website has a very smart and traditional theme which uses rich colours, such as maroon and gold. This reminds us that this school is very proud of the values that it enshrines. On each page, there’s also a banner that showcases photos of the school inside a film reel. I think this addition works really nicely as it captures the school’s goal of incorporating religious teaching within a modern educational system.
In the About Us section, they tell a story of a wise man who spends his time reflecting under a shady tree just outside his village. The moral of the story is that those who choose to see the good in people will be welcomed into the wise man’s community with open arms. Al-furqan Primary School represents that community. Since the school’s humble beginnings of a semi-detached house in Moseley, Birmingham, it remains a family that places great importance on expressing good values in everything that it does.

School Jotter of the Week: Coxhoe School

Published: March 28, 2014

This week’s website is a natural choice. Coxhoe School’s website is famous amongst primary schools across the UK, because it is home to hundreds of teaching resources.

Webanywhere is rather proud of the fact that Coxhoe School chose School Jotter as its website system – and this week, their website was relaunched with a brand new look. Webanywhere was there to document the occasion, and you can read more about this in our blog post here.
The website itself boasts a beautiful design, based around a castle background. The theme is continued through to the menus, which, when you hover over them, drop down further menu options in the style of ancient medieval scrolls.
As always, the website is full of resources, with the curriculum links section taking you through to dozens of links to resources for any subject or key stage you would need. This, along with the outstanding website design, should keep Coxhoe School at the top of the pile when it comes to school websites, for a long time to come.

School Jotter of the Week: Boothferry Primary School

Published: March 21, 2014

This week, another School Jotter user nominated their school website for School Jotter of the Week.

Mrs Aldridge, ICT Manager at Boothferry Primary School, put forward this example of a heavily used School Jotter system – and we’re very impressed by the content they’ve uploaded.
“We work very hard at our school to keep our website bang up to date, and as informative as possible for parents, pupils, staff, governors, visitors and Ofsted,” says Mrs Aldridge. The school have clearly done their homework when it comes to Ofsted’s requirements for school websites – there’s even a section called ‘Ofsted’!
We particularly like the Useful Websites section – a page of links to other websites is not something you see so much these days, but this is a great way of helping parents out, so that they can keep up-to-date with information regarding DfE, as well as the East Yorkshire region (the school is based near Goole).
You can see the Boothferry Primary School website here. If you would like help and guidance with meeting Ofsted’s requirements for school websites, get in touch here.

School Jotter of the Week: Picknalls First School

Published: March 14, 2014

Last week, we asked School Jotter users whether they felt their website was worthy of the School Jotter of the Week title.
We were delighted with the response – it appears there are many schools out there who are not only proud of their school’s website, but actively keep it up to date on a regular basis. This is Picknalls First School, the first School Jotter user to respond.
